Frequently Asked Questions
When can my kitten come home?
Our kittens stay with their momma for 11 weeks to ensure they’re old enough to go off on their own.
Can I get a discount/bargain the price of a kitten?
The adoption fee is between $2200 and $2500 to cover the cost of vet bills, food, enclosures, toys and numerous other costs. This business helps support a large family and the price is kept much lower than many other breeders. Returning adoptees may contact us to inquire about a dropped deposit fee.
How big will my Maine Coon get?
Based on a number of factors (genetics, diet, whether or not you spay, etc.) “The size of a typical Maine coon comes in at 10–16 inches tall and up to an impressive 40 inches in length. These sturdily built felines usually weigh 8–18 pounds” - Daily Paws. Males tend to be larger than females, and both genders “floof up” after they are spayed/neutered. Our Kings and Queens vary in size, and your kitten will resemble either mom or dad in size. Leonidas tends to make larger male kittens, and Minerva and Penelope are tied for mothering the largest kittens. All that said, Maine Coons trump your average house cat in size (and appetite!), so be not afraid! They’re big cats.
Will you spay/neuter my kitten before pick up?
No. Maine Coons are a large breed and rely on their growth hormones for healthy joints and bones, so we recommend you spay or neuter closer to their first birthday (or even wait longer).
Which vaccines will my kitten receive before pick up?
Kittens receive their first round of shots at 8 weeks of age and will be due for a booster at their 12 week appointment (one week after they go home with you!).
“The three-in-one combination vaccine known as FVRCP immunizes kittens against these illnesses. It's administered as a shot to kittens between the ages of six and eight weeks old”
- Pawlicy Advisor
We recommend you take your kitten in for a well-check at this time to make sure they’re adjusting well to their new life. We send all records home with you. Your vet will advise a vaccination schedule.
Will my kitten be used to other animals and children?
We raise our kittens in our fun, twelve person family. They’ll be exposed to babies, they’ll see our chickens from the window, meet visiting family dogs, reptiles, and the like! Our past adoptees have shared that they’re kittens have thrived with dogs and babies. Maine Coons are a very friendly breed and should have no trouble adjusting to whatever loving environment you bring them into.
Will my kitten be litter box trained?
Yes! Starting at around 4 weeks, kittens are given a litter box and learn fairly quickly how to use it. Be prepared for an accident here or there as they adjust to their new home.
Will my kitten’s eyes stay blue?
All kittens are born with blue eyes. Their eye color may change to gold, green, or blue as they grow.
How do I know your cats are purebred Maine Coon?
All of our breeding cats are registered as pure bred Maine Coon. We like to keep our website simple, so feel free to contact for more information!
Why are kittens priced differently?
Every kitten is unique, from polydactyl paws (more than 5 toes) to coloring and personality. There is high demand for certain traits, so we will discuss price with you upon inquiry.
What should I feed my Maine Coon?
We feed our Maine Coons a blend of Grain-Free foods, including Wellness Core. We’ve found that grain free and high protein agrees best with our cats. For our wet food, we like to mix in sardines (in water), a farm fresh egg from our chickens, some Stella and Chewy Dinner Morsels, and homemade chicken feet bone broth. If you’re interested in a raw food diet for your large feline, send us an email and we’ll tell you all about it!
